Oral Bioavailability in Special Populations
نویسنده
چکیده
The extent of absorption following oral administration of drugs may vary among patients. There are several factors that can contribute to this variability including age, gender, disease state, genetic variability, and body weight. The impact of these factors on the extent of absorption is not the same. As body exposure to the administered dose will potentially affect the therapeutic effect of the drug, it is important to understand the impact of each of these factors on the extent of absorption to be able to adjust the dosing regimen and achieve a therapeutic outcome.

Effective oral chemotherapy for breast cancer: pillars of strength.
Traditionally, anticancer therapy has been dominated by intravenous drug therapy. However, oral agents provide an attractive approach to chemotherapy and use of oral treatments is increasing. We discuss the benefits and challenges of oral chemotherapy from the perspectives of patients, healthcare providers and healthcare funders. Important issues include patient preference, efficacy, compliance...
متن کاملIntroducing Self-Nanoemulsifying Drug Delivery System to Increase the Bioavailability of Oral Medications
Due to low cost, ease of administration, and lack need for trained personnel, the oral route is the most convenient and accessible way to design different medicines that could be simply consumed by patients. Regardless of the great benefits of this route, the main challenge in the bioavailability of oral medications is gastrointestinal instability. Nanotechnology is used to improve the solubili...
متن کاملDesigning and Implementing a Practical Course of "Pharmacotherapy in Special Populations" for Medical Interns
Introduction: Learning how to use medications rationally is an important and key issue in medical education. The aims of this study were needs assessment, designing and implementing practical training on pharmacotherapeutic issues in special populations (pregnant women, nursing mothers who are breast-feeding, infants, and elders) for medical interns. Methods: This study was conducted in two con...
متن کاملIn-Vitro Characterization and Oral Bioavailability of Organic Solvent-free Solid Dispersions Containing Telmisartan
Poorly water-soluble drugs often suffer from limited or irreproducible clinical response due to their low solubility and dissolution rate. In this study, organic solvent-free solid dispersions (OSF-SDs) containing telmisartan (TEL) were prepared using polyvinylpyrrolidone K30 (PVP K30) and polyethylene glycol 6000 (PEG 6000) as hydrophilic polymers, sodium hydroxide (NaOH) as an alkalizer, and ...
